Time for the 2017 national FFA Convention
The National FFA Organization aims to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential to build healthy local communities and a more sustainable world through agricultural education. In an effort to develop members’ talents and explore their interests, FFA continues the tradition of hosting a national convention that draws tens of thousands of members from across the U.S. The 90th Annual National FFA Convention will be held this year in Indianapolis, Indiana, from October 25 to 28. The event will offer sought-after performances, educational programming, and volunteer opportunities to engage FFA members young and old. This year’s theme is “I Can. We Will.”
Attendees will get a chance to refine their career goals and network for the future. Career Success Tours will give a detailed look at possible jobs in agriculture, and workshops throughout the week will help members develop leadership skills, personal growth, and career success. Members will also get an opportunity to live out the last line of the FFA motto, “Living to Serve,” by volunteering at 15 sites around the city. For some friendly competition, the National FFA Talent Competition will give members a chance to compete to be named the best in a category, from singing to dancing to yo-yo skills, and more. Finalists will perform on the big stage at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The convention will include an opening session speech from Laila Ali, an undefeated boxing champion, TV host, and author; Mick Ebeling, recipient of the Muhammed Ali Humanitarian of the Year Award; Jon Petz, speaker, magician, and author; a hypnotist performance by Dr. Wand; Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo; and a concert by Rascall Flatts. To punctuate the week, in what has become some the most anticipated moments of the convention, FFA will thank the 2016-2017 national officers for their year of service and announce a new crop of student leaders.
