U.S. Guru in digital and media literacy to give lectures in Sao Paulo and Brasilia

Professor Renee Hobbs, an internationally-recognized authority on digital and media literacy education, will visit Sao Paulo (March 8-11) and Brasilia (March 12-15), to give lectures and discuss issues related to the quality of education in digital literacy and media and how to improve digital and media literacy through community research and services.  She will also help educators understand their rights and responsibilities when using mass media, popular culture and digital media in education.  Professor Hobbs’ visit is one of the many initiatives by the United States Mission in Brazil to promote dialogue and mutual understanding between Brazilians and Americans.

In Sao Paulo, Professor Hobbs will give a lecture at the International Seminar on Education, Media and Consumption – Understanding the Media Education and its Impact on Society, promoted by the Palavra Aberta Institute and by the Superior School of Advertising and Marketing (ESPM), with support by the U.S. Consulate General in Sao Paulo, the Consulate General of Portugal, and the Institute for the Development of Journalism (Projor).  Hobbs will also meet with students from public and private schools and representatives of the University of Sao Paulo’s communication and education departments and the Brazilian Association of Professionals and Researchers in Educommunication – ABPEducom.

In Brasilia, Professor Hobbs will meet with representatives of the Brazilian Government, professors and of journalism and marketing students and give lectures at the Catholic University, the University of Brasilia, and Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies.
